To download and burn to CD-R the compressed digital audio files distributed via etree.org,
you must first download the necessary software. In the software section of the etree.org website
(aka GreenSite), you will find download links and documentation for all required software. All
software we've suggested in this section can be used for free!
To download Shorten files from etree.org FTP servers, you will need an FTP client. We very
strongly suggest SmartFTP, a free and easy-to-use FTP client for
Windows 95/98/Me and NT/2000 users.
To md5check and convert Shorten (SHN) to and from WAV files with Windows, we suggest the
mkw Audio Compression Tool.
Once you've converted Shorten (SHN) files to WAV, you'll need to burn the WAV files to audio
disc. You may either use the software that came with your CD-R drive, or use
Feurio!®, an easy to use shareware software package designed
specifically for burning audio CD-R's.
If you want to play Shorten files on your computer in real-time (without converting to WAV), we
highly suggest Shnamp, the Shorten plugin for
Winamp® for Windows users, or
xmms-shn for Linux users.
We have made every attempt in this section to help make the download and installation process of
software as painless as possible. If you have any suggestions for making GreenSite easier to
use, please email The Etree.org Server Team. Thanks!
