Current, 7/19/00+: The MMW, Grateful Dead and Phish tracking lists have moved to a database format, thanks to the generosity of Tom Anderson, creator of  The Taper's Database trading site. The data there are now noticeably more recent than this site. (For the most timely updates, please subscribe to announce@etree.org.)

These Big Yellow pages are therefore a "ghost" site. They will not disappear anytime soon, but will remain for reference purposes.

Important: Please review the current policies of the Grateful Dead regarding the circulation of their music online. (Note the Dead organization may have upcoming online music plans- see this 6/5/00 news story. More as it happens.) If you see a listing that's not kosher, let us know and we'll flag it or remove it. Please do not engage in or support bootlegging. Thanks!

Note, many .shn-format shows have been appearing regularly in the Dead binaries groups such as alt.binaries.gdead.highspeed, alt.binaries.gdead.highspeed.reposts, and alt.binaries.gdead and alt.binaries.gdead.reposts. For a posting schedule, visit the discussion group alt.binaries.gdead.d or search the Dejanews archives of the group. We ourselves can't monitor Usenet-circulated .shns since we don't have convenient access to these newsgroups. Thus, unless individuals directly send us a circulation date and plain-text versions of the .nfo and .md5 files, a Usenet-distributed show will not have an entry on the list. (Shows that are listed have "abgd" in the comments section, as a general tag for any of the groups.)

Further note: Some circulating versions of shows listed below have been subjected to noise reduction techniques (NR) via PC. Opinions vary as to the merits of such digital manipulations: one discussion is here. By the way, NR is by definition a "lossy" process.

Key to the tables: Tables are informational only; the actual music is not here. Highlighted dates have the source info sheet linked to them (if you don't find one linked here, try Steve Hormell's archive). "Circ Date" indicates when one of us first saw mention of a show being up on ftp site(s); a < means it was probably up before that, sometimes well before. It's just a tracking aid- older ones may not be in circulation much any more. The "#s/a" column lists how many discs the .shns and the audio will fit onto, respectively; most of those entries are blank since we haven't been tracking that data much. The .md5s for the discs are linked in a separate column- usually these are checksums for the .shns, although for some shows, folks have also provided checksums for the decompressed .wavs (such as an .md5 entry listed "d1wav"). To use the md5 checksums at this site, make sure to save the files with extension .md5, not .txt (from a PC, try right-clicking the link and use "save link as", instead of left-clicking the link to view the file).

If you have source info or reports of flaws-or perfection- on the .shns listed here, please feel free to send it along. Thanks to all who have helped, and to everyone who has made this fine music available in the first place!

We do not have all the shows listed. Please do not ask us for them. We do archive the .shns we acquire and may provide them to tree administrators and ftp siteops, as time permits; visit our CDR list.  Enjoy! Diana and Greg Hamilton
