It is important to make sure your email client isn't sending HTML-formatted email to the etree.org mailing lists.
Below are instructions for configuring popluar email clients to be etree.org-friendly.
If you have step-by-step instructions for configuring an email client not listed, please send it
to us so we can add it!
Outlook 98 & 2000:
- Click Tools > Options
- Click on the "Mail Format" tab
- "Message Format" (the drop-down box) should say "Plain Text" - If it doesn't, change it
Outlook Express:
- Under the "Tools" Menu choose "Options..."
- Click on the "Send" tab
- Under "Mail Sending Format" click the "Plain Text" radio button
- Click "OK"
Yahoo! Email:
- When composing an email, make sure you are in "Plain" mode (you should see the option to "Switch to Formatted Version" - don't choose this)
- Below the body of the message, make sure the "Plain text" radio button is selected
- Send your email
Eudora 5:
- Under the "Tools" Menu choose "Options..."
- Click on the "Styled Text" category
- Make sure "Show formatting toolbar" is unchecked
- Select the "Send plain text only" radio button
After checking all this, and you are still sending emails formatted with both plain-text
and HTML, there have been reports of this being an issue with Microsoft Exchange Server - go to
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q222/5/08.asp
for more information. Note that this is an issue that can be resolved only by you System Admin
types, and Average-Joe User. ;)
